Becca Pizzi and the World Marathon Challenge

If you follow Dr. Cool on any of our social networks then you’ve probably already heard of our new and amazing ambassador Becca Pizzi. If you haven’t heard of her yet, she is a remarkable runner who is taking on the World Marathon Challenge. The world marathon challenge is a cross continent race. 7 marathons – 7 continents – 7 days!

Yes, it is a real race.

We sat down with her and asked her a few questions!

  1. How did you hear about the World Marathon Challenge – when did you decide to do it?

I first read about the World Marathon Challenge on the Marathon Maniacs website in November 2014. Marathon Maniacs is a running club, you have to run 3 marathons within 90 days, or 2 within a 16 day time frame to apply I’m blessed with the support of my friends, family and the best resources in Boston, from cardiologist, nutritionists and coaches.

  1. What is your motivation for taking on the world marathon challenge?

Having the opportunity to be the first female American to race this is what is motivating me.  Additionally, I feel very honored to represent my country! I love that so many people all over the world care so much, and are helping me make my dreams come true, it is truly humbling. I will run this race for my daughter, Taylor. She is so proud of me. I want her to have confidence and know that she can do anything she puts her mind to. She sees me every day working very hard and I include her in everything that I do related to this event.  We talk about my training runs, we watch videos on the World Marathon Challenge, we talk about each continent, and proper nutrition, etc; it is a learning experience for both of us! Really I just want Taylor to believe in herself and know that she can do anything she puts her mind to.

  1. What changes did you make in your training for these races versus other races in the past, if any?

I am learning to run on exhausted legs. Often times I run twice a day to log and bank miles. I run at 5am then again at night.  I started stadium stair climbs at the Harvard Track to strengthen my legs and build endurance. Next I will add Cross Fit and I will work my way up to 100 miles a week then taper mid-December.

  1. What are you hoping to gain from this race?

I run to inspire. I am excited to share with the world my passion for running.  It has been an incredible journey so far and already people have reached out to me telling me I have motivated them to start running again and that they have signed up to run races. I want to show the world that anything is possible.

  1. Which country are you most excited to race in?

I have actually never been to any of the parts of the countries that I am racing in, except Miami (I ran the Miami Marathon twice because I enjoyed it so much). I am beyond excited about racing in Antarctica, and ending in Australia, what an amazing journey. Going on a 26.2 foot tour through each country is going to be something I will remember forever! Although I will be racing, I will definitely take it all in.

  1. How will Dr. Cool help you during the World Marathon Challenge, and the training leading up to the race?

I’m putting a huge strain on my body, but I am doing a lot of preventative maintenance to stay healthy. It is incredibly important for me to prevent myself from getting injured.  Dr. Cool is always in my freezer so it’s ready to use after a workout. I have a designated spot for Dr. Cool wraps. It feels so great to wrap my wrists and thighs after tough workouts, both mentally and physically. Also, I train in the Dr. Cool shirts, they keep me comfortable, dry and cool especially in this heat. I have several of them and I love them!

  1. What is your favorite Dr. Cool product so far?

It’s hard to choose a favorite.  I really love the instant cooling towel and the 3” ice wraps. I use both daily. The colors are really fun too! Thank you Dr. Cool for supporting me on this journey, you are the “coolest!” I feel so fortunate to be on your team.

As you can tell Becca is an extremely determined competitor and we have no doubt in our minds that she will crush this challenge! We are happy to be able to help her with her goal and with her preventative steps to avoiding injuries during her training!
